Born in Lok Gabang near Martapura in 1710, he studied in Mecca and Medina for about three decades before returning to the Banjar sultanate, where he taught, reorganised religious administration and wrote Sabil al-Muhtadin (completed 1781). He died in 1812 and is buried at Kalampayan.
