Biography

Muhammad Salih ibn Umar al-Samarani studied in Mecca and taught at Darat, Semarang. He wrote in Javanese using Arabic script, including a partial Qur’an commentary, and counted Hasyim Asy’ari and Ahmad Dahlan among his students. Commonly dated c. 1820–1903.
