Habib Awad is from the Baalawi family of al Hamid (Descendant of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w). He came from Hadramaut, Yemen.
In Singapore, he sat together with Syeikh Umar Al-Khatib in several of the later’s classes. Syeikh Umar once said that he was a Wali Allah.
He was entrusted by Syeikh Umar to perform the Solat Jenazah over his body. After Syeikh Umar’s death, his students asked Habib Awad to take over their teacher’s classes, especially the Sunday morning Ihya Ulumuddin and Sahih Bukhari’s class.
